Getting Started
What's included with my Oura Ring?
Every Oura Ring set includes an Oura Ring and a charging kit, which consists of a ring charging dock and a USB cable. To charge the ring, the USB cable must be connected to an external power source, such as a power adapter. Note that a power adapter is not included.
Sizing and Fit
How do I determine my Oura Ring size?
We recommend you use an Oura Ring sizing kit before selecting your Oura Ring size. The kit includes plastic ring sizers corresponding to Oura Ring sizes, which differ slightly from standard ring sizes (note: half sizes are not available).
For accuracy, wear the sizing ring for at least 24 hours, including while sleeping, before finalizing your size. If you’re between sizes, we recommend choosing the smaller size for a more secure fit. See Tips for Determining Your Oura Ring Size for more information.
Should I wear the Oura Ring on my dominant or non-dominant hand?
The Oura Ring tracks all daily movements, not just steps. Wearing it on your dominant hand may result in slightly higher activity readings due to frequent hand movements. For more consistent tracking, we recommend wearing it on your non-dominant hand during the day.
Which finger should I wear my Oura Ring on?
The Oura Ring can be worn on any finger of either hand. However, for the best signal quality, we recommend wearing it on your index, middle, or ring finger, as these fingers have larger blood vessels, which help optimize photoplethysmogram (PPG) pulse monitoring.
For a proper fit, your ring should be snug but comfortable—not too tight or too loose. Make a fist to ensure there are no gaps between the ring and your finger.
Can I wear more than one Oura Ring at the same time?
No, the Oura App supports only one ring per account. If you have multiple rings, ensure only your primary ring remains connected.
Do I need to wear the Oura Ring in a specific orientation?
Oura Ring 4 and Oura Ring Gen3 Horizon should be worn with the dimple facing the base of your finger. Oura Ring Gen3 Heritage should be worn with the flat top facing upward on your finger.
Wearing and Usage
Can I wear my Oura Ring only at night?
Yes, but wearing your ring only at night means you may miss out on important activity data that contributes to your overall scores. For the most accurate insights and personalization, we recommend wearing your Oura Ring 24/7.
Is the Oura Ring scratch-resistant?
The Oura Ring features a DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) or PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating for improved scratch resistance. However, some activities may still cause scratches. To minimize wear:
- Wear the ring on your non-dominant hand
- Avoid wearing other rings next to it
- Remove it during activities that create excessive friction (e.g., weightlifting).
See more tips in Product Safety & Use.
Can I wear my ring in pools, saunas, or ice baths?
The Oura Ring is water-resistant up to 100 meters (~330 feet), meaning that you can wear it while showering, swimming, or partaking in recreational diving (e.g. snorkeling), but we don’t recommend using your ring while scuba diving or keeping it submerged underwater for over 12 hours. Chlorine will not damage it.
Oura Ring operating temperature ranges from -10–52°C / 14–125°F. You can safely wear your ring in the shower, hot tubs, saunas, ice baths, and cryotherapy tanks. However, extended exposure to extreme temperatures (below -20°C / -4°F or above 60°C / 140°F) may lead to battery damage.
Can my child use the Oura Ring?
Oura Ring is not recommended for users under 18.
Does Oura account for time zone changes?
Yes, your Oura Ring will synchronize to your device's local time once your ring and Oura App connect over Bluetooth in the new time zone.
For short trips, you can choose not to sync until you return. For longer trips, ensure your phone updates its time correctly, especially if it's not connected to a network.
You’ll need to ensure that:
- Bluetooth is enabled on your device
- Proper connection between your ring and app is established
- Your device’s OS is fully up to date
Does Oura have a smart alarm?
The Oura Ring does not have a smart alarm feature, nor does it use sounds, lights, vibrations, or other alert functions. However, Oura can send you notifications for a number of situations. Manage your notifications settings by navigating to the menu in the upper-left corner of the home screen > tap "Settings" > "Notifications."
Battery and Charging
How long does the Oura Ring battery last?
Oura Ring 4: A fully charged ring may last up to eight days.
Oura Ring Generation 3: A fully charged ring may last up to seven days.
Battery life and longevity depend on Oura Ring size, Oura App settings, feature configuration, activity, battery age, usage, and many other factors; actual results will vary. Battery life and charge cycles vary by use and settings. Battery tests were conducted across various sizes and scenarios. See Ring Battery tips for more information.
Oura Ring 4 battery estimates are based on consumption data of internal users, analyzing usage from 100% to 0% battery levels. Oura Ring Generation 3 battery estimates were used as a reference to validate any improvements.
How long does the Oura Ring take to charge?
Your Oura Ring can take 20-80 minutes to fully charge, depending on its current battery level. You can check the battery level by tapping the icon in the upper-right corner of the home screen.
How do I properly place the Oura Ring on the charger?
For proper charging and to prevent the ring from getting stuck, align it correctly on the charger:
- Oura Ring 4: align the ring dimple with the charger light
- Oura Ring Gen3: align the sensor bumps on the opposite side of the charger light
If your ring gets stuck, try gently sliding a flat, non-sharp object, such as a credit card, between the ring and the charger from the side.
See more Ring Battery Tips here.
Compatibility and Connectivity
Which devices and operating systems (OS) are compatible with the Oura App?
The Oura App is supported on iOS devices running Apple iOS 15 and higher, or Android devices running Android 9 and higher with Google Play services. Your device must support Bluetooth 4.0.
The intended use and setup of an Oura Ring should consist of the following: one ring, one account, one device. If there are multiple users or data sources feeding into the same account, this leads to missing data, connectivity issues, or even accelerated battery consumption.
Do I need Bluetooth enabled to use the Oura Ring?
Yes, Bluetooth must be enabled on your phone for the ring to sync data with the Oura App. However, the ring will still collect data even if Bluetooth is off, in Airplane Mode, or disconnected from the app. Your data will sync the next time Bluetooth is enabled.
How do I pair the Oura Ring with the app?
Step-by-step setup instructions can be found here: Set Up an Oura Ring.
Can Oura sync with other apps?
Yes, Oura has an ever-growing list of partnerships and integrations, including Apple Health, Health Connect by Android, Strava, Natural Cycles, and more. See more in our App Integrations section.
How do I update my firmware and software?
To get the most from your Oura experience, keep your Oura App and ring firmware updated.
- Firmware updates install automatically when your ring is synced with the app
- Oura App updates can be downloaded from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store. For the latest software versions, check iOS Updates or Android Updates
