If your sleep data is missing, there are a few common reasons this may occur. Below are potential causes and tips to help ensure your sleep is tracked accurately.
1. Low Battery During the Night
If your Oura Ring battery gets too low while you're sleeping, it will automatically enter a nighttime low battery mode to conserve energy and prevent powering off. While this helps preserve previously collected data, it may stop gathering new information, which can result in an incomplete sleep analysis and missing sleep metrics such as heart rate (HR), heart rate variability (HRV), Readiness Score, and sleep stages. Since accurate sleep staging requires continuous data, partial data can lead to gaps in your sleep insights.
However, even if data is missing, you will still see your Total sleep, Time in bed, and Bedtime start/end, and you will see an insight on the Readiness card explaining why your sleep data is missing.
Tip: Charge your ring to at least 30% before bed to avoid interruptions.
2. The Ring Powers Off
If your battery becomes fully depleted and your Oura Ring powers off during sleep, all data from that night will be lost. In this case, even the Total sleep, Time in bed, and Bedtime end/start, and Readiness insights will be missing.
Tip: Charge your ring to at least 30% before bed to avoid interruptions.
3. The Sleep Period Is Too Short
The Oura Ring requires a minimum of three hours of sleep stage detection between 6 PM and 6 PM the following day to identify a main sleep cycle. If you haven't had a continuous sleep period of at least three hours, you may not sleep any sleep data in the app when you sync your ring in the morning. However, if you sleep again later in the day for three hours or more, the daytime sleep period will be displayed and considered as the main sleep cycle.
4. Restless Sleep or Insomnia
High levels of nighttime movement or disrupted sleep can make it difficult for the Oura Ring to accurately detect sufficient Light, REM, and Deep sleep stages. In these cases, sleep data may not appear after syncing. Oura prioritizes accuracy and is sensitive to continuous movement, which can interfere with sleep detection.
Restless sleep can be caused by many factors, including health conditions.

5. Oura Ring Not Synced with the App
If your Oura Ring isn't synced with the Oura App for several days, collected data may be lost. This can happen if:
- The ring’s internal memory becomes full and begins overwriting older data
- The ring powers off before syncing, causing unsynced data to be lost
Although the Oura Ring stores data temporarily, it’s important to sync regularly to avoid data loss.
Tip: Sync your Oura Ring with the Oura App daily for the best experience and to keep your data safe and up to date.
6. Oura Ring Not Worn Overnight
It may sound simple, but forgetting to wear your Oura Ring to bed is a common reason for missing sleep data. Some members place the ring on the charger before sleep, then forget to put it back on—especially if syncing happens after waking.
Tip: Before heading to bed, double-check that your Oura Ring is on your finger and ready to track.
7. Software Glitch or Technical Error
While the Oura App is designed for stability and accuracy, occasional software glitches may result in missing sleep data. In rare cases, this data cannot be recovered. We continuously monitor and work to resolve these issues as they arise.
Tip: Sync your Oura Ring once before bed and again shortly after waking. This minimizes the volume of data syncing at once and can help reduce the risk of errors.

8. Potential Hardware Issue
If your sleep data has been consistently missing for several nights in a row, and the above solutions haven’t resolved the issue, there may be an issue with the hardware.
