What is Bedtime Guidance?
Bedtime Guidance helps you find the optimal time to go to sleep, based on your unique sleep patterns. Oura looks at factors like what time you went to bed on the nights when you had your highest Sleep Scores or your lowest resting heart rates to learn what works best for you. Then, based on your typical wake-up times and recommended sleep duration, the Oura App will let you know when your ideal bedtime is approaching.
Bedtime Guidance is a recommendation for when to go to sleep. Missing the suggested bedtime won't negatively affect your Sleep or Readiness Scores.
Bedtime Guidance is also different from the Body Clock, which recommends an optimal sleep schedule based on your chronotype. The easiest way to think of these two features is that your Body Clock and chronotype are aspirational guidelines to help align your sleep with your circadian rhythm. Bedtime Guidance focuses on helping you get the most sleep based on your recent patterns.
How to Use Bedtime Guidance
The Bedtime Guidance card will appear at the top in your home screen an hour before the recommended bedtime window. For the rest of the day, you'll find it further down in a collapsed view.
Tap the card for more details, including your upcoming optimal bedtime window, last night's bedtime, and a sleep time graph from the past few weeks.
Note that bedtime recommendations are automatically determined and cannot be manually edited.
For more insights, you can view your bedtime trends by day, week, month, or year in Trends:
- Tap the menu
in the upper left-hand corner of your home screen
- Select Trends
- Select Sleep > Bedtime
We also recommend turning on Bedtime notifications to be alerted when your ideal sleep window approaches:
- Tap the menu
in the upper left-hand corner of your home screen
- Select Settings
- Select Notifications
- Toggle Bedtime notifications on
Troubleshooting
The Bedtime Guidance card appears only for the current day in the Oura App.
It takes about two weeks of consistent data before Oura can start providing Bedtime Guidance recommendations. An irregular sleep schedule or consistently low Sleep Scores can also affect Oura's ability to provide Bedtime Guidance.
If you do not see a Bedtime Guidance card, continue wearing your ring and aim for a more regular sleep schedule over the next week or two.
