Initial Troubleshooting Steps
- Ensure your ring is resting properly on the size-specific dock. If it is, a small light will appear on the front of the charger
- Try using a different USB-A to USB-C charging cable
- Turn the USB-C cable 180 degrees, and reinsert it in the ring charger
- Try using a different power brick or source
The USB charging power cord is intended to be supplied by an external 5Vdc supply that complies with IEC 62368-1 standard. The power available to the equipment should not exceed 15W after three seconds, to prevent battery degradation.

If the initial troubleshooting steps didn't work, the next step is to determine the cause of the issue—ring or charger.
Gen3 Chargers
The Gen3 charger has a self-test function to test if the charger is functioning when it is plugged in. To test the charger, plug the charger into the power without putting the ring on it.
The white charger LED should light up once and then fade away.
- If your charger illuminates, it is functional and your ring is likely causing the issue
- If the charger light does not illuminate, this likely indicates that the charger itself is defective
Gen3 chargers also include a red-green-blue (RGB) LED to help indicate their charging status.
If the light is blinking red while the ring is on the charger:
- Take the ring on and off the charger a few times to see if you're able to establish a proper charging connection (indicated by a flashing white light)
- Make sure your ring has the latest firmware installed. A message will appear at the top of your Oura App's home tab if a firmware update is available
- Try performing a factory reset of your Oura Ring. See this article for factory reset instructions
If you still see a blinking red light after trying the above steps, there may be a problem with your ring. Please contact our team with information regarding which troubleshooting steps you've already taken.

If the light is blinking blue: your ring is not currently paired to a device, and is ready to connect to Bluetooth. You should see this under two circumstances:
- you’re setting up your ring for the first time or
- you’ve performed a factory reset on your ring and did not pair it to your device afterward
Gen2 Chargers
If you have a Gen2 charger, you can try a simple home charger test:
- Begin by plugging your Oura Ring charger cable into a power source
- Next, place the metal end of a separate USB cable in front of where the ring usually sits, above the light, as displayed in the graphic below
Note: You’ll need to ensure that the metal portion of the USB cable is pushed up against the center of your charger, where the Oura Ring sits. If the two are not touching, the light source will likely not be triggered on.
If you’re unable to get your charger light to turn on using steps 1 and 2, try placing your ring on the charger one last time to see if the charger light illuminates.
- If your charger illuminates, it is functional and your ring is likely causing the issue
- If the charger light does not illuminate, this likely indicates that the charger itself is defective
