Product Care
Oura Ring 4 Ceramic
Oura Ring 4 Ceramic is made from high-performance zirconia ceramic, a premium material selected for its scratch resistance, luster, and color. Each Oura Ring 4 Ceramic has a smooth, polished finish.
Zirconia ceramic is a popular material for jewelry and watches because of its strong nature, and is unique due to its high surface hardness properties. A little maintenance will help your Oura Ring 4 Ceramic look its best.
Oura Ring 4 Ceramic comes with a convenient Ceramic Polishing Pad to help remove scuffs from daily wear.
- If you bought your Oura Ring 4 Ceramic from the Oura online store, a Ceramic Polishing Pad is automatically sent with your order
- If you bought your Oura Ring 4 Ceramic from a retailer, after activating your ring, you'll receive an in-app message and email with instructions to redeem your free Ceramic Polishing Pad
Everyday Care Tips
- Wear on your non-dominant hand and avoid wearing other rings right next to your Oura Ring
- Take special care when handling metal objects, or consider removing your ring for those
- Try not to drop or hit your Oura Ring against hard surfaces
- To help maintain skin comfort, try to avoid trapping moisture under your ring. Remove it before washing your hands, doing dishes, or keeping your hands in water for extended periods. Make sure both your hands and the ring are fully dry before putting it back on.
Removing Scuffs
Because ceramic is harder than many metals, it can scuff and take on the color of softer metals, like dumbbells or cookware. You may notice grey marks after wearing your Oura Ring 4 Ceramic for certain activities. These are metal transfers, not damage, and can be removed with proper cleaning.
If you notice scuffing, follow these cleaning instructions:
- Remove your Oura Ring 4 Ceramic and firmly grasp with fingertips
- Press the ceramic exterior of your Oura Ring 4 Ceramic against the purple (non-logo) side of the Ceramic Polishing Pad
- Focusing on areas with scuffs, polish your Oura Ring 4 Ceramic. Most marks are removed in 15-30 seconds
- Store your Ceramic Polishing Pad in its original envelope for future use
Important notes:
- Do not use the Ceramic Polishing Pad on titanium Oura Ring styles, and only use it on the exterior of ceramic Oura Ring styles. Do not use it on the interior of the Oura Ring or on other non-ceramic surfaces
- Do not add water, cleaning solution, polish, or another substance to the Ceramic Polishing Pad
Oura Ring 4 and Oura Ring Gen3
Both Oura Ring 4 and Oura Ring Gen3 have titanium exteriors. The Oura Ring may get scratched and can itself scratch softer metal jewelry or other objects in close contact with the ring, such as phone covers made of gold, silver, or aluminum. Some ceramic phone covers with a soft coating may also get scratched.
Everyday Care Tips
- Wear your Oura Ring on your non-dominant hand to reduce the amount of contact with various surfaces and objects you interact with on a daily basis
- Avoid wearing other rings adjacent to your Oura Ring. Other rings may scratch your Oura Ring while rubbing against it
- Consider removing your Oura Ring in situations that involve friction (e.g. weightlifting), or when handling objects made of metal, ceramics, or stone (such as handling pots or pans)
Cleaning
- Rinse with mild dish soap and water; dry thoroughly before wearing again
- If following strict handwashing protocols, remove your ring and wash separately like other jewelry
Oura Ring Chargers
Do not use or store any Oura Ring Charger in humid environments like bathrooms.
Oura Ring Charging Docks are not water-resistant and are intended for indoor use only.
If you’re planning on storing an Oura Ring Charging Case or giving it to another person, unpair it from the Oura App and perform a factory reset.
Battery and Charging
The Optimal Battery Range
We suggest doing your best to keep your ring's battery above 30%. To get started incorporating this new habit, we recommend keeping your charger on-hand and getting into a routine of charging your ring for a little bit each day. Consider charging your ring during periods of the day when you may traditionally take a brief break from wearing it for the sake of comfort or additional scratch protection—such as washing dishes, typing at your computer, showering, cooking, etc.
Keep in mind that all rechargeable batteries are consumables and have a limited lifespan, so their capacity and performance will gradually decline with time.
Maintaining this battery range on a regular basis will result in the lowest battery deterioration rate over time.
Avoid Under and Overcharging
Try to prevent your ring's battery from reaching 0%. We suggest enabling low battery level notifications to avoid this. Check out this article for guidance on how to enable these notifications.
If you plan on taking a break from wearing your ring (for more than two weeks), we recommend charging your ring above 50% and then placing your ring in Power Saving Mode before storing it.
Avoid leaving your ring on its charger for more than a week.
Tips for Battery Conservation
If you're looking to get the most out of each charge, we suggest enabling Airplane Mode, which can help to conserve battery. Check out this article for instructions on how to enable Airplane Mode.
Use Proper Power Source
The USB charging power cord is intended to be supplied by an external 5Vdc supply that complies with EN 62368-1 standard.
Sensor Cleaning and Temperature Guidelines
Clean Your Sensors
We recommend cleaning the infrared LED sensors (the three small bumps) located on the interior of your Oura Ring approximately once a week. This can be done by wiping them down with the inside of your t-shirt or a piece of cloth, or by rinsing your ring with a small amount of mild dish soap and water. By doing so, you’ll remove any dust or dirt that may be interfering with the signal between your ring’s sensors and the arteries on the palm side of your finger. Hand sanitizer is also safe to use with Oura Ring.
Avoid Extended Exposure to Extreme Temperatures
Oura Ring operating temperature ranges from -10–52°C / 14–125°F. You can safely wear your ring in the shower, hot tubs, saunas, ice baths, and cryotherapy tanks. However, extended exposure to extreme temperatures (below -20°C / -4°F or above 60°C / 140°F) may lead to battery damage.
Connectivity and Updates
Only Connect Your Ring to One Device at a Time
The Oura Ring is intended to be connected only to one account at a time. To avoid connectivity issues or missing data, be sure to factory reset your Oura Ring and remove it from your phone's Bluetooth settings when unlinking it from your account, or before attempting to pair the ring to a different account.
If you start using a new device and need to safely transfer your Oura Ring data, please follow the instructions outlined in this article.
Update Your Oura App Software & Ring Firmware When Possible
You’ll be notified in the Oura App when a new version of our software and firmware is released. We recommend updating to the most recent versions to ensure optimal ring and app performance, as well as an ideal member experience.
