Firmware Update Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting Automatic Updates

If you've toggled the settings to "on" and your firmware hasn't been updating automatically, these scenarios might be preventing the update:

  • You must open the Oura App at least once since the firmware release
  • Ring battery must be at least 30%
  • Airplane mode must be disabled
  • Bluetooth must be enabled
  • Automatic firmware updates will not run if Activity Heart Rate is active, or if you are using an Explore session that measures HR/HRV (marked by the the biofeedback icon icon)
  • Automatic firmware updates will not run if you are asleep and your ring is measuring nighttime biosignals

Troubleshooting Manual Updates

If you experience trouble while attempting a manual firmware update, try the following:

  • Ensure your ring's battery level is at least 30% when attempting to update your firmware
  • Ensure your ring is connected throughout the updating process — don’t close the app or toggle your Bluetooth on/off while the update is taking place
  • Keep your device's screen unlocked during the update to prevent potential interruptions
  • Make sure your device’s operating system is up to date. You can check this by opening your phone's Settings
  • Restart your phone
  • Attempt the firmware update in a room where the signal interference is low (no other devices nearby)
  • Attempt the firmware update through a different device (e.g., a tablet)

Uninstall and Reinstall the Oura App

If none of the above steps help with the firmware issue, please try uninstalling and reinstalling Oura on your phone:

  1. Complete a data backup by tapping the menu Icon Bars Menu in the upper-left corner of the home screen > Settings > Back up all data
  2. Delete the Oura App from your device
  3. Reinstall the Oura App
  4. Place your ring on the charger, ensuring the small light on the front of the charger appears
  5. Go to your device's Bluetooth settings
  6. Locate your ring in the list of connected Bluetooth devices (look for "Oura" in the name) and tap the icon to the right to unpair/forget the device
  7. Unpair other connected Bluetooth devices to eliminate potential interference with the Bluetooth signal
  8. Make sure the ring is on the charger and charger is plugged in
  9. Relaunch the Oura App
  10. Follow the in-app onboarding flow to set up your ring
  11. Check the app home screen for a firmware update message
