How to Use Your Oura Ring Charger

Oura Ring Charging Cases

Oura Ring Charging Cases make it easy to charge your ring while you're on the go.  They connect to your phone via Bluetooth, hold up to five full charges, and have a compact design. Once the Oura Ring Charging Case is set up, you can check its battery level and receive firmware updates in the Oura App.
 

Oura Ring Charging Cases do not come with a USB cable. You can use the cable that came with your Oura Ring, or another USB-C cable that meets the EN 62368-1 safety standard and is compatible with a 5V DC power supply.

Note: Before setting up your charging case, make sure your Oura Ring is already paired with the Oura App.

How to Set Up an Oura Ring Charging Case

Oura Ring Charging Cases connect to your phone via Bluetooth. Once it’s set up, you can check its battery level and receive firmware updates in the Oura App. Make sure your phone’s Bluetooth is turned on.

  1. Open the Oura App
  2. Go to the My Devices page by tapping on the Icon Bars Menu.png menu in the upper-left corner or the Icon Ring Battery.png battery icon in the upper-right corner of the Today tab
  3. Tap Set Up New Device > select your Oura Ring Charging Case
  4. Connect the case to a power source using a USB-C cable and adapter
  5. Open the case lid and keep it open while pairing
    • Oura RIng 5 Charging Case: Press the side button for three seconds. The pairing mode is active for three minutes before you’ll need to press the button again
  6. When you see a solid blue light, tap Continue
  7. Your charging case should automatically appear in the app when it’s ready to pair
  8. Follow the in-app instructions to install any available firmware updates

How to Charge Your Oura Ring Charging Case

  1. Connect the charging case to a power adapter using a USB-C cable
  2. Plug the power adapter into a power source
  3. The LED on the charging case will pulse white while it’s charging
  4. Once the charging case is fully charged, the LED will turn green

Oura Ring 5 Charging Cases can also be charged on most standard wireless Qi 1.3. charging pads. Place the charging case on a compatible wireless charging pad. Charging will start automatically. The LED behavior on the case and the indicators in the Oura App are the same as when charging the case with a USB-C cable.

You can charge your Oura Ring Charging Case with or without your Oura Ring inside. If your Oura Ring is inside, both devices will charge at the same time. When your ring is fully charged, the LED will turn green, but this does not indicate that the charging case is fully charged.

Turn Charging Case Battery Status notifications on to receive general information and updates about battery and charging cycles. You can also check the battery level in the My Devices page.

How to Charge Your Oura Ring with the Charging Case

  1. Open your charging case and place your Oura Ring on the tower. Align the ring dimple with the charging case light 
  2. Close the lid to secure your Oura Ring
  3. The LED on the charging case will pulse white while your Oura Ring is charging. You can also see the Icon Ring Battery Charging.pngcharging icon in the Oura App.
  4. When the LED turns green, your ring is fully charged. If you have battery notifications turned on, you will get a notification when your ring is fully charged

Oura Ring Charging Case LED Indicators

The LED light on the front of your charging case shows the charge status of either the case or your ring. If you haven’t paired your charging case with the Oura App, the LED won’t turn on. To see the LED lights, open and close the lid of the charging case.

When the charging case is connected to a power source:

When the charging case isn’t connected to a power source

You can check the battery level of your Oura Ring 5 Charging Case or Oura Ring 5 inside the Oura Ring Case by doing a single short press of the side button. The LED indicators will be the same as when you open the lid.

Oura Ring 5 Charging Case: To check the battery level of your Oura Ring 5 Charging Case or your Oura Ring 5 while it’s in the case, you can also press the side button once. The LED indicators will show the same battery status you see when you open the lid.

Updating Charging Case Firmware

  1. Plug the charging case into a power source
  2. Open the charging case's lid
  3. Bring your phone or tablet with the Oura App near the charging case
  4. Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the internet
  5. Open the Oura App
  6. Keep your phone or tablet near the charging case for several minutes
  7. Close the Oura App to the background and leave the charging case as-is for several more minutes
        * The charging case's firmware will automatically update in the background

Oura Ring 4 and Oura Ring Gen3 Charging Docks

All Oura Ring set purchases include a size-specific Oura Ring Charging Dock and USB cable, which needs to be connected to a separate power source such as a laptop or power brick. 

The USB charging power cord is intended to be supplied by an external 5Vdc supply that complies with EN 62368-1 standard.

How to Charge Your Oura Ring with an Oura Ring Charging Dock

  1. Connect the USB cable to your charger and plug the other end into a power source, such as a USB wall plug, laptop, or power brick
  2. Place your ring on the charger The charger light will pulse white while your ring is charging
    • For Oura Ring 4, align the ring dimple with the charger light

  • For Oura Ring Gen3, align the sensor bumps on the opposite side of the charger light, above the USB-C port

When the LED turns green, your ring is fully charged. You'll receive a push notification from your Oura App when charging is complete. This push notification will only appear if your Oura App is open and running in the background of your device (i.e., not forced closed). This also applies for low battery notifications.

If you’re setting up your ring for the first time, the charger’s LED will blink blue if you haven’t paired your ring, Oura App, and device over Bluetooth yet. You should see this under two circumstances:

  1. You’re setting up your ring for the first time or
  2. You’ve performed a factory reset on your ring and did not re-pair it to your device afterward

Once you’ve paired your ring to your device via Bluetooth and successfully established a ring connection in your Oura App, the blinking blue will turn to solid blue, and then fade into white. Once a ring is fully charged, the LED will turn green.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Your Oura Ring may fit more snugly in an Oura Ring Charging Case than on an Oura Ring Charging Dock. This helps keep it secure during travel, since the charging case is designed for portability
  • Ensure your Oura Ring is charged before bed. We recommend charging your ring to at least 30% before going to bed. If your ring's battery level is low, you may not receive sleep insights for the night. You’ll still receive a bedtime and wake-up time, but no Sleep or Readiness Score, and no further breakdown of your sleep stages, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, or resting heart rate
  • If your ring is stuck on the charger, try gently sliding a flat, non-sharp object, such as a credit card, between the ring and the charger from the side. Avoid using anything sharp to prevent scratching or damage. For future charging, make sure your ring is properly aligned on the charger
