How to Use the Sleep Health Hub
To open the Sleep Health Hub in the Oura App, head to the My Health tab. Tap the sleep icon in the arc at the top, or scroll down and select the Sleep Health card.
Your Sleep Health rating ranges from “Needs Care” to “Thriving” and updates daily. It’s based on your median Sleep Score from the past 14 days, so one unusually good or rough night won’t drastically affect your overall rating.
Key Metrics
Typical Sleep Score
At the top of the Sleep Health Hub, you’ll find a chart showing your Typical Sleep Score. Each point on the graph represents the median Sleep Score from a 14-day period, updated daily. You can scrub across the graph to see the date range and score for each data point.
Each 14-day window includes the current day and the 13 before it. For example, if today is September 2, the most recent data point includes August 20 to September 2, labeled as Today. The previous point will show the 14 days prior to that (August 6 to August 19) and so on. The 14-day window shifts to accommodate today’s date.
Related Metrics
Sleep Debt
Sleep Debt shows how much sleep you’ve missed over the past two weeks, based on your personal sleep need estimation. You’ll see your Sleep Need as hours and minutes.
This metric is calculated by looking at your total sleep each day (including both long and short sleep sessions) and comparing it to your personal sleep need estimation. Sleep debt is calculated over the past two weeks, giving more weight to the most recent days.
See more information about the feature here: Sleep Debt.
Sleep Regularity
Sleep Regularity is the same one you’ll find in your Readiness Contributors. It reflects how consistent your sleep and wake times are. In general, more regular sleep patterns can support better recovery and energy levels.
Sleep Profile
Daily Sleep Need
Most adults need around 7 to 9 hours of sleep, but your ideal amount can vary. Age, chronotype, activity, and recovery needs all play a role.
Oura estimates your daily sleep need based on your typical sleep patterns over the past 90 days. It filters out unusually short or long nights to give you a balanced, personalized baseline.
There are built-in minimums and maximums to keep your estimated sleep need within a healthy range based on age. If you tend to sleep very little, Oura won’t let your sleep need drop below the minimum shown to support health for your age group. The same applies on the other end. Very long sleep patterns won’t push your estimated need above the typical maximum for your age.
Sleep Need is shown as hours and minutes under Sleep Health.
Chronotype
Your chronotype is your biological baseline or circadian rhythm that determines when you are at your most active and alert. It’s calculated from data from the past 90 days. See Body Clock and Chronotype for more information.
Troubleshooting the Sleep Health Hub
To show your sleep trends and insights, the Sleep Health Hub relies on consistent nighttime ring wear. If there's not enough data to calculate a metric, you’ll see a message in the app letting you know more data is needed.
Data requirements:
- Sleep Health: At least two weeks of data and at least seven Sleep Scores from the past two weeks
- Sleep Score: Seven days of sleep data within the past two weeks
- Sleep Debt: Five days of sleep data needed within the past 14 days.
-
Sleep Regularity:
- New members need at least two weeks of sleep data
- Existing members need five days of sleep data within the past two weeks
If you're not seeing data yet, try wearing your ring consistently during sleep for a few more nights.
